What cookies are and why we use them
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your computer, tablet or phone when you visit. They let the site recognise your device on later pages and later visits, so it can keep you signed in, remember what you have chosen and behave as you expect. Similar technologies, such as pixels, tags and local storage, do much the same job, and everything we say about cookies on this page applies to them as well.
We use cookies for four broad reasons: to make the site work and keep your account secure, to understand how our pages perform, to remember your preferences, and to measure the marketing you see. Some cookies are set by us. Others are set by the suppliers who provide parts of the service, such as game suppliers, payment providers and analytics tools. Those suppliers may only use the information for the purposes we agree with them.
Strictly necessary cookies are set because the site cannot run without them. For every other category we ask for your consent first, through the cookie notice that appears when you arrive, and you are free to change your mind later. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and it does not affect anything that was done while your earlier choice was in place.
The types of cookies we use
We group cookies into four categories. The categories are shown in the cookie notice, where you can accept or decline each one separately.
Strictly necessary
These keep the site working and your account safe. They hold your session together as you move between pages, remember that you have signed in, spread traffic evenly across our servers, and help us spot unusual activity on an account. They also record the choices you make in the cookie notice itself. These cookies cannot be switched off from the notice, because turning them off would stop the site functioning.
Performance and analytics
These tell us, in aggregate, how the site is being used. They count visits, show which pages load slowly or return errors, and let us see where a journey such as registration or a deposit is being abandoned. We use what they tell us to fix faults and improve layout and loading times. We do not use them to build an advertising profile of you.
Functionality
These remember the preferences you set, so you do not have to set them again: your language, your display and sound settings, the games you have marked as favourites, and whether you have already dismissed a message. If you decline them the site still works, but it will forget these choices between visits.
Marketing
These measure how our advertising performs and help keep it relevant. They record that you arrived from a particular campaign, limit how often you see the same message, and let us tell whether an advert led to a registration. Where they are set by advertising partners, they may also be read on other sites those partners work with. Marketing cookies are only set if you accept them.
| Category | What it does | Can you decline it? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Signs you in, holds your session and protects your account | No - the site cannot run without it |
| Performance and analytics | Counts visits and shows us where pages fail or slow down | Yes |
| Functionality | Remembers language, display settings and favourites | Yes |
| Marketing | Measures campaigns and limits repeated messages | Yes |
Marketing and closed accounts
If you have self-excluded, taken a time-out or asked us to stop sending you marketing, we do not use marketing cookies to bring you back. Those settings are applied to your account with us and are not affected by your cookie choices.
How to manage cookies
You have two ways to control cookies on this site: our cookie notice, and the settings in your own browser.
In the cookie notice on the site
- Open the cookie settings link shown in the footer of any page, or wait for the notice to appear on your first visit.
- Switch each optional category on or off. Strictly necessary cookies stay on, because the site needs them.
- Save your choices. They are stored on the device and browser you are using at the time.
- Come back to the same settings whenever you wish to change your mind; the new choice replaces the old one straight away.
Because your preference is itself stored in a cookie, clearing your cookies or using a different device or browser means you will be asked again.
In your browser
Most browsers keep these controls under a settings menu, usually in a privacy or security section. From there you can normally do the following.
- See which cookies are already stored on your device, and delete some or all of them whenever you wish.
- Block cookies set by other organisations while still allowing the cookies set by the site you are visiting.
- Block all cookies, or set the browser to clear them automatically each time you close it.
- Browse in a private or incognito window, where cookies are discarded at the end of the session.
Mobile devices also offer advertising controls in their own settings, which limit how apps and sites measure campaigns.
What happens if you block cookies
Declining optional cookies is always your choice and does not affect your ability to open or keep an account. Blocking cookies more widely, including strictly necessary ones, will stop parts of the site working.
- You may not be able to sign in, or you may be signed out as soon as you move to another page.
- Deposits, withdrawals and other steps in the cashier may fail part-way through.
- Game windows, live chat and other features supplied by third parties may not load.
- Your language, display settings and favourites will be forgotten between visits.
- Security checks that protect your account may not run as they should.
If the site stops behaving as expected, allowing strictly necessary cookies and clearing your stored cookies is the first thing to double-check before contacting us.
Cookies, age checks and safer gambling
This site is for adults aged 18 or over only. We hold a gaming licence, and we verify the identity and age of every account holder before play continues, using documents and checks rather than cookies. Cookies support those checks by keeping your session secure, but they are not a substitute for them.
Your safer gambling tools sit in your account, not in your cookie settings. There you can set deposit limits, take a time-out or self-exclude, and the limits shown in your account apply whatever device you use. Free, confidential support is also available from GambleAware, GamCare and the National Gambling Helpline, and GamStop allows you to self-exclude from licensed online operators in Great Britain in one step.
Changes and how to reach us
We update this policy from time to time, for example when we add a feature or change a supplier. The current version always appears on this page, and we will ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
If you have a question about the cookies we set, want to understand a category better, or would like help changing your settings, write to us at support@casinoslotsshine.co.uk or use the live chat on the site. Please tell us which device and browser you are using, as that helps us look into the matter more quickly.
